AT THE CUT OUT SEPTEMBER 22 ON CONSTELLATION RECORDS; FEATURES MEMBERS OF FUGAZI,
GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR, SILVER MT. ZION

“Chesnutt writes intimate, Southern-flavored story songs that are at once crude and elegant; beautiful and gruesome; joyful and sad.”—NPR’s “Weekend Edition”

“When wheelchair-bound Vic Chesnutt spikes his soul-crushing songs with a wicked grin, he somehow gives discomfort a powerful allure.”—SPIN

This fall Vic Chesnutt will embark on a six-week North American tour in support of At the Cut, the Athens, GA-based singer-songwriter’s latest effort. The touring band features Fugazi’s Guy Picciotto and members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion, all of whom collaborated with Chesnutt on the new album which is out September 22 on Constellation Records. At the Cut is the follow-up to North Star Deserter, Chesnutt’s 2007 collaborative recording with the same group, lauded by SPIN for “[turning] chronic disquiet into disturbingly palpable dread-folk” and Pitchfork for “[sounding] like a return to the dark woods after years in the city.” Please see reverse for a complete list of tour dates.

Recorded by former Arcade Fire member Howard Bilerman at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango studio, At the Cut focuses on themes of cowardice, courage, mortality, tenacity, defiance, mourning and memory. The opening track, “Coward,” was originally written for director (and Chesnutt collaborator) Jem Cohen’s Empires of Tin and premiered in a live performance by Chesnutt and his band at the 2007 Vienna Film Festival. Reflecting the broad stylistic range of contributors on the album, the songs on At the Cut span the musical spectrum from classic Vic Chesnutt solo acoustic tracks to the sweeping walls of noise and snarling, angular guitars trademarked by his many collaborators. To be made available on CD and LP, the album’s artwork features original and found photography by Jem Cohen.

In the 19 years since Chesnutt’s debut album, he has made his mark by collaborating with a wide range of artists including Michael Stipe, Lambchop, Bill Frisell, Elephant Six mainstays Elf Power, Widespread Panic and the Cowboy Junkies. Hailing from rural Georgia and confined to a wheelchair since an automobile accident at the age of 18, Chesnutt has released 15 critically acclaimed records; been covered by a number of artists on the tribute album Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation including R.E.M., the Smashing Pumpkins, Madonna and Sparklehorse; was the subject of the 1992 PBS documentary Speed Racer and appeared in the Oscar Award-winning film Sling Blade.

IMMERGENT RECORDS TO HONOR THE MUSICAL INNOVATIONS AND LEGACY OF LES PAUL THIS WEEKEND IN OBSERVANCE OF PAUL’S WISCONSIN MEMORIAL SERVICE

IMMERGENT RECORDS TO HONOR THE MUSICAL INNOVATIONS
AND LEGACY OF LES PAUL THIS WEEKEND

IN OBSERVANCE OF PAUL’S WISCONSIN MEMORIAL SERVICE

STARTING FRIDAY, AUGUST 21, FREE DOWNLOADS FROM

THE LAST CD TO FEATURE THE ICONIC GUITAR LEGEND,

‘LES PAUL AND FRIENDS-A TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND’ TO BE MADE AVAILABLE AT

http://www.immergent.com/immergent-remembers-les-paul.

August 19, 2009 -- In honor of the legacy of the late Les Paul, immergent Records will be offering five free downloads from the very last official CD that featured the playing of Les Paul - LES PAUL AND FRIENDS-A TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND beginning on the same day as his memorial service in Waukesha, Wisconsin. After a funeral service Wednesday in New York City, Paul will be buried at a private ceremony on Friday, August 21, at the Prairie Home Cemetery in his hometown of Waukesha, WI. There will be a free public tribute and viewing from 10am to 2pm CT at Discovery World in Milwaukee. While other members of Paul’s family are buried in this cemetery, his plot will be larger and separate to allow for the public to easily visit. On Friday, the museum will also host a screening of Les Paul’s final Wisconsin concert, at Milwaukee’s Pabst Theater from 2008, and the guitar he used every week at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City will also be on display.

The free downloads will be available from the immergent Les Paul Tribute site at http://www.immergent.com/immergent-remembers-les-paul starting at 12:01am ET Friday, August 21 and will continue through the weekend until Midnight PT Sunday, August 23.

In addition to the songs, fans can also leave their own tribute on the website as well as stream the album and listen to The Les Paul Radio Program, a tribute special produced by music historian Denny Somach, which originally aired last year when the album was first released. This program includes a stunning cover of U2's "All I Ever Want Is You," a brand new recording by Slash, and “The Good Luck You’re Having,” a mesmerizing blues performance with Les trading licks with guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa (named Best Blues Guitarist by Guitar Player magazine. Also included is a rundown of some of the top rock songs that feature the Les Paul guitar from Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jeff Beck, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, ZZ Top and more.

Originally released September 30, 2008, LES PAUL AND FRIENDS-A TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND is a fitting honor to the genre-crossing icon with an eclectic collection of musicians spanning the musical spectrum. From the hard hitting thunder of Joe Bonamassa’s blues-shredding guitar, to the fluid, ethereal, guitar groove provided by Slash, this CD covers the gamut of guitar and recording techniques. Superb music performances are also turned in by , Richie Sambora, Joe Perry, Peter Frampton, Jeff Golub, as well as vocalists Joan Osborne, Edgar Winter, Mick Hucknall from Simply Red, Johnny Rzeznik, Lisa Fischer, and many others. Notably, Les Paul himself plays alongside his protégés on several tracks. For all of his amazing accomplishments, Les Paul might be best known to the current generation as the name atop the headstock of the world’s most popular electric guitar, the Gibson Les Paul. What they likely do not know about the man behind the infamous name is that without Les Paul, the modern world of recording as we know it would never have existed. In addition to his status as one of the greatest jazz guitar virtuosos, Les Paul is responsible for inventing the multi-track recording process, the reverb and delay effects, and the solid body electric guitar itself. Paul’s contributions have forever changed the landscape of music and defined the sound of Rock ‘N Roll. This CD serves as a tribute, not only to the man, but also to these techniques that Les Paul invented, as well as to the Les Paul guitar and the inspiration he provided to the many guests that appear on this recording.

Here are the five free download songs which will be available this weekend:

“The Good Luck You're Having” featuring Joe Bonamassa and Les Paul

“The Walls Came Tumbling Down” featuring Hiram Bullock and Les Paul

“I Don't Want Be With Nobody But You” featuring Joan Osborne and Les Paul

“All I Want Is You” featuring Johnny Rzeznik, Peter Frampton and Les Paul

“Slipping Into Darkness” featuring Lisa Fischer and Les Paul

BYO Records and Youth Brigade Announce 'Let Them Know: The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records'

31-Track Box Set w/90 Minute Documentary Out 9/22, Youth Brigade Fall Tour and National Film Screenings

BYO Records (Better Youth Organization), the seminal Southern California punk label, will celebrate its 25th anniversary with the release of 'Let Them Know: The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records.' On September 22, the label will release a box set containing a 31-track double LP, a 90-minute documentary on the history and importance of Youth Brigade and the BYO label, and a full-color, hardcover book containing photos and essays. The set will also be available as a CD/DVD package with booklet; the music will be sold at digital retailers as well.

BYO was formed in 1982 by Mark and Shawn Stern of the band Youth Brigade as an outgrowth of their legendary LA club Godzilla's. BYO's debut release, 'Someone Got Their Head Kicked In,' captured the energy coming out of the exploding SoCal punk scene and included early songs from Bad Religion, Social Distortion, SNFU and Adolescents. On the 'Let Them Know' release, punk icons such as Leatherface, Ch3, 7 Seconds, Subhumans, NoFX, Bouncing Souls, Dropkick Murphys, Pennywise, Anti-Flag and many others cover songs from the extensive BYO Records catalog. Each band appearing on the album chose their favorite song from the catalog; all were recorded for 'Let Them Know' over the past two years.

The full-length documentary in the 'Let Them Know' box set was directed by Jeff Alulis ('Do You Remember? 15 Years of the Bouncing Souls,' 'NOFX Backstage Passport'). It will premiere in Los Angeles 9/10 and will screen across the country, dates listed below.

FRENCH MIAMI - pretty much everywhere!

FRENCH MIAMI - pretty much everywhere!

MORE SHOWS ANNOUNCED THROUGH SEPTEMBER

"San Francisco trio French Miami folds a lot of influences into its scrappy postpunk, from wiry hardcore to sprawling psych-fury." Time Out Chicago

The band are out on the road for their most extensive tour yet!

If you haven’t heard French Miami yet, enjoy your last few minutes of peace. Once their songs get inside your head, they start a permanent loop and you will wake up and go to bed singing along. The only way out of this musical addiction is sleep deprivation.

French Miami’s raucous live shows use rock music structures to hold together more technical musical ideas. Jagged guitars, pulsing synths, and precise stop-start rhythms launch seductive refrains that have forced the crowd’s feet off the floors in post-punk singalong deliriums from SXSW to CMJ. The first time you catch their live show you might be shocked to discover there’s no bassist as their ménage a guitar-synth takes the low end as far as it can go with the head-nodding precision of a mathematical equation.

How is this possible? It helps that they’re multi-taskers. Onstage, French Miami show off the technical cred behind their sound by moving non-stop and playing an average of two instruments apiece, usually at the same time. Singer Jason Heiselmann slides effortlessly between baritone guitar and keyboards while delivering vocal melodies in memorable strands too gritty to be called pop, too irresistibly catchy not to be. Multi-instrumentalist Roland Curtis is usually playing a guitar with one hand and a synth with the other with freakish proficiency. Meanwhile, drummer Chris Crawford does precisely what a drummer should do by anchoring their sound in a minimalist beat, knowing when to let loose and when not to.

This was no easy live show to wrangle onto a record, but French Miami knew the right man for the job. Phil Manley (Trans Am, Fucking Champs) committed their self-titled debut - a unique blend of prog, post-punk, and synth-art rock - to eternity. The album waxes nostalgic on anthemic 90s sounds from Archers of Loaf and Trans Am, tastes the angular grooves of Battles and Holy Fuck, and throws in the earnestness of the Boss and Fugazi to balance the sweet with the sour. The result is terse, jagged rhythms fueled by great hooks fulfilled in noisy abandon.

"San Fran psychopaths craft skull-collapsing post-punk, wiry (and Wire-y) guitars twitching over steady chugging rhythms." - Rolling Stone

"Having the traditional two arms doesn't restrict French Miami from showing off by pounding their heaving math-rock intricacy through two instruments at once. Each. Inevitably, the local musos cream themselves at such a sight, but this trio have the ability to get you throwing plenty of irregular shapes on the dancefloor too." - NME

"Their electric kool-aid post-punk is stilted by Telecasters winding up the same kind of prickly riffs that bands like Battles and Fiasco usually turn into proggy freak outs, but instead of going all aggro, French Miami end up sounding like a Guy Picciotto band that wouldn't need SPF1000 at the beach." - RCRD LBL

Gov't Mule - 'By A Thread'

Gov't Mule is proud to announce that their latest record, 'By A Thread' is set for an October 27th release through Evil Teen Records. Their first studio album in three years, 'By A Thread' finds the Mule, lead guitarist and frontman Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, keyboardist Danny Louis, and bassist Jorgen Carlsson, adding a newfound shot of soul to their classic power-band sound. The band is currently on short break between legs of a massive worldwide tour, which will resume September 9th in Salt Lake City. A full list of dates is below.

'By A Thread' was recorded largely in the Texas Hill Country at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in 2009, the album's origins are apparent from the first track, "Broke Down On The Brazos," named after the nearby river, with a deep Texas stomp for the backbeat and featuring what Rolling Stone recently called "an incendiary duel with ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons." Perhaps less descriptively named, "Steppin' Lightly" is another burner, set off by the soulful vocals and mind-bending guitar work of Haynes, who proves anew why Rolling Stone named him one of the Top 25 guitarists of all time, and why he was voted Best Rock Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine's 2009 Reader's Poll.

Gov't Mule has had over 2 million paid song downloads through their site MuleTracks and released nearly a dozen acclaimed and bestselling albums while emerging as a major touring force, routinely headlining pavilions, theaters, and festivals.

Wax Tailor Announces Third Album "In The Mood For Life" and US Tour

Wax Tailor Announces Third Album "In The Mood For Life" and US Tour

Wax Tailor's first album “Tales of the Forgotten Melodies” drew comparisons to the likes of RJD2, Portishead and DJ Shadow, while his second “Hope & Sorrow” (80,000 sold worldwide) landed him a nomination at the prestigious Victoires de la Musique, as well as the US Indie Awards. France's Wax Tailor is currently coming off a year which saw him tour relentlessly (over 200 concerts) and score the title track for the movie “Paris” by Cedric Klapisch.

Fueled by the energy of relentless touring he has written his third and best album to date “In the Mood for Life”. Written in both Paris and New York City, this necromancer of forgotten melodies is able to blend Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, and 60's Pop Music into a 52 minute journey. You can join in on his journey when he comes to the US for 12 live dates around the country this October (dates below).

IN THE MOOD FOR LIFE
Out on Le Plan Music
Digital Release Date: September 22, 2009
Physical Release Date: October 27,2009

Wax Tailor masters the art of reinventing oneself, and although his signature sound is immediately identifiable, a style oft compared to melancholic melodies reminiscent of The Cocteau Twins blended with a delicate balance of Hip-Hop seldom seen these days, this new album establishes a true evolution both in terms of production and song writing. String instruments, which were once just extras, now assume a more prominent role ("Dry Your Eyes"," Go Without Me"), and where genres once crossed path from one track to another, they now collide within a track ("This Train", "Fireflies"). The resulting sound is denser, more organic and the song writing more finely chiseled.

With the opening notes, the mood sets the stage. Wax Tailor is now the conductor of melodies, the director of an aural movie whose urban roots meet the perfect casting. Throughout this album, he appropriates a multitude of references with a very personal touch. His music is beyond genres and defies categorization, it is a modern brand of pop music, designed with a rigor and an expertise that betrays the love this artist puts into his craft.

SWELL SEASON PLAYS 1st NEW SONGS SINCE 'ONCE' @ NPR

Last week the Swell Season made a trip down to DC for a Tiny Desk Concert at NPR. If you've never been to a TDC, they're quite a sight. They're literally filmed at the desk of NPR's Bob Boilen and though Glen admitted he'd never held down a desk job before, he and Marketa were totally in their element, performing seven songs mostly from the new album, and even playing the first-ever Tiny Desk encore!

Here is what NPR had to say about the performance: "From quietly mournful sing-alongs to Van Morrison-esque thrill rides, the whole thing doesn't so much satisfy expectations as feed them further." Watch it here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=111679769

The new Swell Season album 'Strict Joy,' is out Oct 27 on Anti-.

Michael Jackson Documentary Film "The Trial And Triumph Of The King Of Pop" Debuts on Video-on-Demand Throughout The US

RockCity Entertainment, Elbow Grease Productions, and MVD Visual are pleased to announce the debut of Michael Jackson - The Trial and Triumph of The King of Popon cable and internet Video-on-Demand (VOD) platforms across North American in up to 50 million homes. Over 100 operators and digital destinations are offering the film including, Apple iTunes, Amazon VOD, Charter, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and Verizon FiOS.

The documentary raises and debunks the various charges, trials, and conspiracies surrounding Michael over the last 17 years. The film features director/hostess Pearl Jr. talking to dozens of Michael's fans and interviews with Michael's trial lawyer Tom Mesereau as well as his brother Jermaine Jackson. Also included are celebrity well wishers Kanye West, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Jon Voight, Fantasia, Mo'Nique, Aphrodite Jones and Linda Deutsch. The film also features Michael's final riveting press conference in London in March of 2009.

Even in death, Michael Jackson is the world's biggest superstar, but his achievements almost came crashing down during his child molestation trials. This film goes behind the scenes of those sometimes chaotic and outrageous trials. MJ's fans all over the world always believed his innocence.

Wilson Ebiye, President and CEO of Rock City Entertainment states, "Michael Jackson was the greatest entertainer of all time. We want to help preserve his legacy of love and kindness that is evident in his music. Our goal with The Trial and Triumph of The King of Pop was to clearly establish the fact that Michael was found not guilty of child molestation in a court of law. The King of Pop will continue to live through his music."

Long considered one of rock/pop's biggest stars, Jackson first rose to prominence as a member of the Jackson 5, before launching a massively successful solo career, which culminated in one of the biggest-selling blockbuster albums of all-time, 1983's Thriller, which spawned such hit singles/videos as "Billie Jean," "Beat It," and the title track. Jackson was on the comeback trail at the time of his passing, as multiple dates of proposed Jackson performances at London's 02 Arena had sold out.

Director Pearl Jr. noted, "Elbow Grease Productions is continuing on the same path as before the death of the King of Pop. We have always believed the world deserves to know the true facts in the cases against Michael Jackson... that mission will continue."

BLK JKS, whose recent concert is described by the Los Angeles Times as “one of the most explosive and genuinely thrilling shows L.A. has seen in a very long time,” will embark on a national tour in support of After Robots. (Please see below for a schedule of confirmed performances; more dates will be announced shortly.)

Following the March release of their MYSTERY EP and return appearance at South by Southwest, South Africa’s BLK JKS are receiving critical praise from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, SPIN, The New Yorker, Washington Post, LA Weekly, Time Out New York, New York Daily News and Under the Radar, among others. Amidst all this critical praise the essence of BLK JKS’ music—a collision of township blues, fringe jazz and renegade dub, heard via the lens of prog—shines through. Music from Africa has never sounded like this, as BLK JKS bring the concept of afro-futurism into a new century.

After Robots was recorded January in Bloomington, IN as BLK JKS traded a South African summer for winter in America and burrowed in for marathon recording sessions of one live take after the next. Brandon Curtis of Secret Machines returned to join the band at the controls and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble appears on several tracks with the swagger of aggressive horn stabs, but throughout After Robots is an original BLK JKS affair—a distinctly South African vision of rock’s global travel and the possibility of what it can sound like from here on out.

BLK JKS first came to the U.S. in the spring of 2008 after a chance meeting with über-producer Diplo while he was on tour in South Africa. The band’s appearance on the cover of the Fader, as well as highly acclaimed sets at South by Southwest, sparked recording sessions at New York’s famed Electric Lady studios that resulted in the MYSTERY EP. They have gone on to share stages in North America and Europe with a celebrated and disparate array of artists including Femi Kuti, Santigold, Dirty Projectors, Michael Franti and Cody Chesnutt; they have played Sasquatch and Soweto Arts Festival; and drummer Tshepang Ramoba has been celebrated by Billboard as “the best musician” at SXSW.
BLK JKS consists of childhood friends Lindani Buthelezi and Mpumi Mcata who grew up on the same block in Johannesburg’s East Rand where they taught themselves guitar. After the band’s current lineup took shape with the addition of bassist Molefi Makananise and drummer Tshepang Ramoba, both of Soweto, they embarked on a schedule of heavy touring throughout South Africa that earned them a loyal national following.
