"this Echo and the Bunnymen-esque cut is an uplifting paen to staying up all night in spite of your problems." -Under The Radar

Fall tour dates to be announced

The Mary Onettes will release 'Puzzles', taken from their sophomore album 'Islands', released November 3rd on Sweden'sLabrador Records, home to The Legends, The Radio Dept. and Little Big Adventure to name a few.

The Mary Onettes’ critically acclaimed debut was described as the perfect mix between A-ha and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Now they are back with a grandiose new album. Imagine a Swedish equivalent of The National on a diet of speed, Planet Earth DVDs, and 80’s guitar pop singles and you’ll have a vague idea of how amazing this is.

The year 2008 was characterized by the deaths of close relatives and friends of Philip Ekström (singer and songwriter of the band) and on 'Islands' he’s put more focus on the lyrics. 'The Disappearance of My Youth' and 'Cry For Love' were written in his girlfriend’s mother’s estate and most of the songs on the album are highly marked by his time in Stockholm after her death.

“The songs are almost too personal and I’ve had a hard time playing them for friends. It’s like all I want to do is keep them to myself.”(Philip). The lyrics are retrospective with themes of lost youth, transience and death.

The first single 'Dare' was no. 1 on Elbo.ws, 'Pleasure Songs' from the debut was Single of the Week on iTunes with half a million downloads. The Mary Onettes have had two songs feature in the TV-series Grey’s Anatomy and their first single on Labrador was tagged Best New Music on Pitchfork. Things have been going well since The Mary Onettes signed with Labrador, but the band has certainly had their ups and downs.

”The title ‘Islands’ came up because I see the tracks on the album as small islands in different shapes and forms where every song is like a record of it’s very own. Johan on Labrador Records suggested the same title without having heard me mentioning the idea, so that was a coincidence too good not to pursue.” (Philip)

Drink Up Buttercup - 09/17 - Glasslands Gallery - Brooklyn, NY

Drink Up Buttercup Sign To Yep Roc Records
Release New Single with Debut Album to Follow in 2010

"Lumbering drums, jangling shakers, electronic squiggles, and lots of…ragged shouts accompany the strutting bass line and stomping guitar….it's all just loose and playful enough to avoid coming across as overly nostalgic." - Pitchfork

Drink Up Buttercup have signed with Yep Roc Records and to celebrate are giving away the single ‘Even Think’, a fast-paced fist-pumper, driven by frenzied organ arpeggios and swelling vocal harmonies reminiscent of the sound of Brian Wilson re-imagining The Velvet Underground’s White Light/White Heat – all recorded and mixed in less than 24 hours as a lo-fi gift for their fans sonically unique from their other recorded material. If this is the kind of studio magic that is conjured in less than one day you won’t believe your ears when you get to hear the full length coming in early 2010 recorded by Philly’s veritable go-to guy, Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man) and mixed by Rusty Santos, the man responsible for the sound that graced Panda Bear’s Person Pitch.

The single will be backed by an all new alternate version of the live performance fan favorite “Heavy Hand," and this digital 45 can be downloaded for FREE at Yep Roc’s site (Click HERE for link). And for all the vinyl junkies out there the 7” only version will feature a cover of the Buzzcocks classic “Why Can’t I Touch It." Expect two amazing reworks of the single courtesy of electro-pop meastro Cale Parks and renowned party-starter Andrew WK.
Drink Up Buttercup is truly the story of hard work and dedication. There was no stumbling upon an album deal, they earned it the good old-fashioned way by working their backsides off for it. This year alone they released a 7” (Sosey&Dosey/Farewell Captain) on Kanine Records (Grizzly Bear, Chairlift), recorded an entire full-length album, all while playing 60+ self-booked shows. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Bishop Allen, The Fiery Furnaces, Tune-Yards, Clues, Marnie Stern and Free Energy and if you were lucky enough to catch them live at SXSW, New York’s After The Jump or the countless other shows, consider yourself a member of a privileged club because it won’t be as exclusive for too much longer.

Always planning the next trip, Drink Up Buttercup will be hitting the road again introducing more people to the onstage fracas of fretboards, drumsticks, elbows, metal lockers, mannequin heads, and trashcan lids thrashing through the air. Yet somehow avoiding serious injury to themselves, and always leaving the audience exhausted but eager for more in fashion that The New York Times declares “mesmerizes and clobbers live.”

“Beatle-esque but in a kitchen sink kind of way." - Brooklyn Vegan

CD vs Vinyl? Vinyl vs CD? Wax Tailor says why not both....all in one!

Always immersed in the ever long debate of which is better, CD or Vinyl, Wax Tailor wonders why can't we have both all in one. For the lead single off his third album, 'Say Yes' he has devised a solution to the quandry by releasing it in a format aptly titled CD-VINYL which can be played in a CD player as well as on a turntable and is packaged with the album exclusively at Borders retailers.

IN THE MOOD FOR LIFE
Out on Le Plan
September 22, 2009

Wax Tailor's first two albums drew comparisons to the likes of RJD2, Portishead, Avalanches, DJ Shadow, and he is ready to drop his third and best to date, “In the Mood for Life”. He masters the art of reinventing oneself, and although his signature sound of perfectly blended Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Jazz and 60s Pop is immediately identifiable, this new album establishes a true evolution both in terms of production and song writing. String instruments, which were once just extras, now assume a more prominent role, and where genres once crossed path from one track to another, they now collide within a track . The resulting sound is denser, more organic and the song writing more finely chiseled. You can join in on his journey when he comes to the US for 12 live dates around the country this October (dates below).

Listen, download, enjoy, post Wax Tailor's finely crafted audio album trailer HERE.A little something that he put together so his fans can preview all the tracks from one handy-dandy MP3.

Adele with The Raconteurs, N.E.R.D. featuring Santigold, JET, Anberlin, MuteMath, Owl City, OK Go and Parachute, all set for placement in 90210

CBS Records will release a specially produced soundtrack for the hit television series 90210 on Tuesday, October 13. Soundtrack 90210 features 14 brand new tracks from some of music’s biggest names, including Adele with The Raconteurs, N.E.R.D. featuring Santigold, JET, Anberlin, MuteMath, Owl City, OK Goand Parachute, all set for placement in 90210 episodes during the 2009 - 2010 season.

Last night’s episode of 90210, “To Sext Or Not To Sext” featured a brand new song from OK Go, “I Want You So Bad,” which marked the first placement in an episode of a song from the forthcoming soundtrack.

90210 executive producer Rebecca Sinclair and music supervisor Scott Vener listened to dozens of submitted tracks before choosing the ones best suited for the show’s upcoming storylines. Soundtrack 90210 stands apart from television show soundtrack which merely compile a selection of songs that were heard in a series’ previous episodes. Instead, this collection features all brand new and previously unreleased tracks that will be integrated into upcoming episodes and make Soundtrack 90210 a true representation of the show’s music sensibilities throughout the current season.

As Sinclair explains, “The music that we are using this season on 90210 reflects the show; it's fresh, eclectic, passionate and fun. I'm thrilled with the wonderful artists who have given us all these great songs and excited to share the soundtrack of the show with everybody.”

90210 airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. / 7 p.m. central on The CW.

The complete track listing for Soundtrack 90210 is as follows:

  1. Adele with The Raconteurs “Many Shades Of Black”
  2. N.E.R.D. featuring Santigold “Soldier”
  3. JET “One Hipster One Bullit
  4. Mute Math “Valium”
  5. OK Go “I Want You So Bad”
  6. The All-American Rejects “Sierra’s Song”
  7. Anberlin “A Perfect Tourniquet”
  8. Owl City “Sunburn”
  9. Will Dailey “You’re So Cold”
  10. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus “Love Seat”
  11. Parachute “One Small Step”
  12. Sarah Solovay “Hearts Collide”
  13. Darrelle London “Understood”
  14. Stars Crashing Cars “City Girl”

Tuesday, September 15, 7PM Busdriver and Abstract Rude in partnership with New York magazine

18+
$15.00 Adv

BUSDRIVER
Possessing a hyper-literate, intellectual style of rapping augmented with dizzying elocution that would tongue-tie even the fiercest auctioneer, Busdriver is eclectic and eccentric enough to cite vocalese jazz singer Jon Hendricks as a primary influence. Born Regan Farquhar, the Los Angeles MC was introduced to hip-hop culture early -- his father wrote the screenplay to one of the earliest films focusing on hip-hop, Krush Groove. He began rapping at age nine, releasing his first record at age 13 with his group, 4/29, named after the 1992 L.A. riots. By the mid-'90s, Busdriver was a regular at the Project Blowed open mic, where he would meet future collaborators and underground luminaries like Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, and Freestyle Fellowship. And shortly after, the vinyl did flow.

ABSTRACT RUDE
In an age where syrup-soaked thug chants and dance instructions rule the hip-hop landscape, there’s a lot to be said for storytelling skills and a passion for crafting vocal lines. Abstract Rude’s sense of rhythm can be likened to that of an Afro-Latin conga player, leaning towards the polyrhythmic, while his delivery moves seamlessly between straight rapping and melodicism that recalls Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. A veteran of Project Blowed, Abstract Rude is a member of the group Haiku D’etat (wth Mikah 9 and Aceyalone) as well as Abstract Tribe Unique (with DJ Drez and Fat Jack). His new album
Rejuvenation(RHYMESAYERS) uses rap as a jump-off point into other musical territories including neo-soul and jazz.

Longtime friends and professional collaborators, Willner and Friday came together to bring the concert to life and raise awareness of (RED)™’s mission. Friday, a childhood friend of Bono, is an Irish singer, composer and painter and founding member of the gothic rock group The Virgin Prunes. Willner has produced albums for Marianne Faithfull, Lou Reed, William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, yet is perhaps best known for assembling tribute albums and live events saluting Leonard Cohen, Thelonius Monk, Tim Buckley, Edgar Allen Poe and Marquis de Sade.

Willner said, “This unique evening is a celebration of Gavin and a gathering of friends and amazing musicians. We’re all proud to partner with (RED) to help fight AIDS in Africa.” “It’s an honor to be a part of this (RED)NIGHT because I know the money generated will go directly to people who need it,” added Friday.

“We’re grateful to this incredible line up of artists who have joined forces with (RED) for one special night at Carnegie Hall,” said Susan Smith Ellis, CEO of (RED). “This concert, and the (RED)NIGHTS series of concerts across the U.S., are an alternative way to engage the music community and their fans in (RED)'s mission to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.”

At each (RED)NIGHTS concert, the participating artists aim to inspire fans to join (RED)’s mission to eliminate AIDS in Africa by pausing to highlight the many ways to get involved and encouraging those in the audience to share the message and experience with others. Ultimately, it is the goal of (RED)NIGHTS to build a community—of artists, concertgoers and music fans everywhere—that is passionate about helping to fight AIDS in Africa.

(RED) presents the (RED)NIGHTS concert series at select Live Nation clubs and theaters across the country. (RED) and Live Nation are collaborating to link acclaimed artists with their fans to join the fight against AIDS in Africa.
