Blue Rodeo: The Things We Left Behind US Release: January 26,2010

"...a trip of an album, a double CD that finds [Blue Rodeo] exploring new textures as they summon the past." _Globe & Mail
Canada's multi-platinum selling band Blue Rodeo announce the U.S. release of their new record The Things We Left Behind. This is the band's 12th studio record and the most ambitious to date. In a time where bands are posting "tweet songs," Blue Rodeo are releasing an old-fashion 16-song double record, which will be available on CD and vinyl.

"From the beginning when we first played the songs for each other, we knew we were going to do two records," says Jim Cuddy. "It's pretty organic, acoustic-y. It's got a lot of vocals on it. We're kind of harkening back to Neil Young, CSNY, that kind of vocal sound -- much more falsetto, bigger choirs."

"They have the chops to warrant the attention and high expectations they've sparked since their debut... When Rodeo hits the mark, they're first class."

The Things We Left Behind takes the listener on a journey with its trademark roots-rock sound augmented by glorious orchestral touches. Ballads like as "One More Night", "Gossip" and "Waiting For The World" contain some of the strongest performances of the group's career while "Million Miles" and "Sheba" bear the unmistakable influence of groups like Fairport Convention. Keelor's "Never Look Back" reprises the sound of his and Jim's pre-Rodeo post punk band the Hi Fi's with a nod to the Everly Brothers.

"...consistently fresh and inspired!" _Allmusic

In their twenty-five year career, Blue Rodeo has sold over 4 million records, won an unprecedented 5 Juno awards as Group of the Year and been inducted onto Canada's Walk of Fame. But for them, the accolades and awards pale in comparison to the good fortune of being musicians.

"I think that's the testament - to really do it for a living," says Cuddy reflecting on all that has happened to the band. "Not just live the life of a popular band but to actually do music for a living."

Praise for their past recordings include:

"If as many bands played with the honesty and passion of Blue Rodeo, this would be a different world indeed."_
Rolling Stone

"Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor have gained worldwide notoriety as two of Canada's greatest songwriters. "Cuddy and Keelor are gifted melodist."
_The New York Times

"What their music does, more than anything else, is reach out to a rarely touched spot - a place where music and imagery are fused and lyrics become emotions, not just stories."
_ Chicago Tribune

They have appeared on Late Show with David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Tonight Show, Austin City Limits among many others.

'The Things We Left Behind' was produced by Blue Rodeo at the band's Woodshed studios in downtown Toronto. A U.S. tour is planned for Spring 2010.

DM STITH CONCLUDES TRILOGY OF EP’S WITH BRAID OF VOICES

Asthmatic Kitty artist DM Stith completes his trilogy of EP’s with Braid of Voices (December 8). This EP is the final third part of the trilogy—BMB was released in July, Thanksgiving Moon was released November 3—following Stith’s debut album Heavy Ghost, which received international critical acclaim upon its release in March. NPR called the LP “complex… [containing] inventive songs,” while Entertainment Weekly proclaimed it “one of the strongest debut albums I’ve heard.”

The first EP in Stith’s trilogy, BMB, features covers of The Ronettes and Randy Newman and remixes by Roberto Lange of Helado Negro and Savath & Savalas and Son Lux. With Thanksgiving Moon and Braid of Voices, Stith furthers this approach of combining near-to-heart covers with re-worked originals and remixes by friends.

The Thanksgiving Moon EP starts with the original demo that was first recorded for Stith’s Heavy Ghost LP (it was also this song that ended up flapping around the Asthmatic Kitty offices, resulting in the label commissioning Stith to finish an album). Written as a reflection of the landscape of Western New York, “Thanksgiving Moon” marked a new direction in Stith’s songwriting. The EP also features Stith’s cover of David Byrne’s “A Soft Seduction,” are-worked version of his own “Pigs” featuring a marching band and “Thanksgiving Moon” remixes by Michna (Ghostly International) and label-mate Rafter.

The original “Braid of Voices” is the climax to Stith’s Heavy Ghost album. For the Braid of Voices EP he has distilled the song to its essentials while maintaining what Pitchfork called a “stunning emotional catharsis.” He performs a cover of Diane Cluck’s “Easy To Be Around” while “Abraham’s Song,” taken from Stith’s debut release Curtain Speech EP, receives a remix by experimental electronic artist Bibio. FatCat glitch artist and Bjork collaborator, Ensemble, and Warp recording artist Clark also offer re-imagined version of Stith songs. The EP ends with a free-jazz version of “Wig,” featuring label-mates I Heart Lung.

Stith’s musical career began in Brooklyn contributing design help on Shara Worden’s albums, as well as backup vocals and piano to songs on Bring Me The Workhorse. During that period Stith began composing his own work tapping into an earlier passion. Worden encouraged him to share his private songs with Asthmatic Kitty Records, and after hearing only two demo songs, the label invited Stith to write and record an album. Stith currently resides in Bloomington, IN, where he is pursuing an MFA.

Dan Auerbach to Tour North America in November with Justin Townes Earle, Jessica Lea Mayfield

Dan Auerbach 2009 Nov Tour Poster

Following a stellar two-night set in Austin at Austin City Limits and his official ACL Aftershow at Antone's, Dan Auerbach is set to begin a three-week North American tour, with his touring band The Fast Five, beginning November 5 at Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio, and running through the 21st at the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville, with two stops in Canada along the way. Joining Dan and his band for the whole length of the tour are Justin Townes Earle and Jessica Lea Mayfield. Unfortunately, six stops that were previously on tap for December—in Milwaukee; Minneapolis; Chicago; Cleveland; Bloomington, Indiana; Newport, Kentucky—have been canceled due to a scheduling conflict.

After the recent show at Antone's in Austin, New York Times music critic Nate Chinen wrote that Dan's "guitar playing was raucously astute; his singing was urgently soulful. And his backing band, chiefly made up of members of the country-soul group Hacienda, tackled every groove with an avid snarl."

Come hear Dan and his band "stomping through songs from his fine solo debut, Keep It Hid," as Chinen described teh Antone's set, at these upcoming November tour dates. For more information with start times and links to each venue, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

DAN ZANES AND FRIENDS’ 76 TROMBONES GRAMMY-WINNING BAND RE-IMAGINES LEGENDARY BROADWAY TUNES FROM THE MPL CATALOG FOR FAMILY AUDIENCES

CAROL CHANNING, BRIAN STOKES MITCHELL,
MATTHEW BRODERICK AND MORE

Family music pioneers Dan Zanes and Friends delve into a vital part of America’s musical heritage with their forthcoming album of timeless songs owned by Sir Paul McCartney’s MPL Music Publishing catalog. 76 Trombones comes out November 17 features an array of new friends from Broadway, including Tony Award winners Carol Channing (Hello, Dolly!), Brian Stokes Mitchell (Kiss Me, Kate) and Matthew Broderick (The Producers), along with de’Adre Aziza (Passing Strange) and Derick K. Grant (Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk). The album introduces a new generation of kids to classic Broadway songs that everyone knows and loves. A portion of the proceeds from the CD will benefit Rosie O’Donnell’s Rosie’s Broadway Kids, which is an arts education organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children through the arts.

76 Trombones began in a slightly different way than other Zanes and Friends recordings, this time with an out-of-the-blue phone call. Nancy Jeffries from MPL rang Zanes to see if he and his band would be interested in raiding their Broadway publishing vaults and collaborating with some of Broadway’s best to create a family CD. Within the year, after countless hours of sifting and experimenting, Zanes and Friends were holed up in Puerto Rico with long-time Zanes co-producer Rob Friedman recording 76 Trombones.

Zanes and Friends’ trip down the Great White Way traverses genre-defining works held by MPL including “Hello Dolly” (from Hello Dolly with Carol Channing), “I Like Everybody” (from The Most Happy Fella with Brian Stokes Mitchell), “I Don’t Need Anything But You” (from Annie, with de’Adre Aziza), “I Can Do That” (from A Chorus Line with tap dancer Derick K. Grant), “Before the Parade Passes By” (from Hello, Dolly! with Matthew Broderick), and “Tomorrow, MaƱana” (from Annie with Sonia de los Santos).

Zanes says, “With the exception of the Hair soundtrack, musicals were never my thing as a kid. I was too caught up in the music of Leadbelly back then. But as a parent, one afternoon at my daughter’s request, I figured out how to play “Bushel And A Peck” (from Guys and Dolls). I had a sudden realization that once you took away the hopped-up big band and the high intensity vocals it was an amazing folk song. It occurred to me that maybe a lot of these Broadway songs could be broken down to their ragged essence, reworked as 21st Century all-ages music, and presented in a manner that might make you think, ‘Hey, I can do that.’ When the people at MPL called me two years ago about a possible Broadway album I took it as a sign that the time was finally right to put on my dusty, moth-eaten tux and get loose with the songs of American musicals. For me, the songs and performances on this CD are packed with emotion and celebration. I’m grateful and still a little surprised that the people at MPL trusted us with them!”

Zanes began by distributing a homemade cassette at a neighborhood park in New York City’s West Village and has since released several Parents Choice Award-winning, bestselling albums including the acclaimed album The Welcome Table: Songs of Inspiration, Mystery & Good Times and Catch That Train!, which won the 2007 Grammy for “Best Musical Album for Children.” Music videos for Zanes’ songs have aired on The Noggin Network and “Sesame Street” and The Disney Channel’s “Playhouse Disney.” Zanes just released his new DVD The Fine Friends Are Here! in collaboration with Razor & Tie Entertainment. Finally, Zanes has also released two limited edition ukuleles—called the dz flea and the fiesta flea—and two picture books made in collaboration with his illustrator-musician brother-in-law, Donald Saaf (Little, Brown and Company Books).

Dan Zanes and Friends are: Dan Zanes, Colin Brooks, Sonia De Los Santos, John Foti, Saskia Sunshine Lane and Elena Moon Park.

THE NEW REGIME LIMITED EDITION PACKAGE OF DEBUT ALBUM, ‘COUP,' AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY ON THENEWREGIMEMUSIC.COM AND FREE ALBUM DOWNLOAD ON NIN.COM

November 10, 2009 -- We’ve been warned. "Things are about to get MANIC,” so says Rock Sound magazine.
What’s behind that declaration? THE NEW REGIME, the "true solo project" of current Nine Inch Nails and former Lostprophets drummer ILAN RUBIN. No mere time-keeper, the adept multi-instrumentalist wrote and recorded every note of bass, drums, guitar, piano and vocals on THE NEW REGIME’s 2008 debut, COUP(Command! Music).
Feeling energized by the new crop of fans he’s collected due to Nine Inch Nails’ recently concluded “Wave Goodbye” tour, RUBIN has put together a special limited edition deluxe package of COUP set for release November 10 exclusively on the band’s website (www.thenewregimemusic.com). For the low price of $45, fans will get a 180 gram vinyl, the CD, a DVD featuring live performances and an interview with RUBIN, a 16-page full color 12” x 12” booklet, and an exclusive website link to download instrumental mixes from THE NEW REGIME’s website. All 1,000 limited edition copies will also be hand-numbered and signed by RUBIN. A stand alone digipak CD will also be available on the band’s website for $7.
In a true sign of support for his new band member, Trent Reznor is encouraging his hardcore fans to get to know THE NEW REGIME by offering a free download of the album in its entirety on NIN.com the same day as COUP’s release. Nine Inch Nails’ camp will also host the download on a direct link,http://thenewregime.nin.com, starting at midnight on November 10.
To celebrate the package’s release, the band will be performing at the Viper Room in Los Angeles, CA on Thursday, November 19. Tickets are currently on sale.
What can fans expect from THE NEW REGIME? As praised in a Kerrang! magazine “4-K!” album review, the songs of COUP “…are presented with such wonderfully bombastic flourishes it sweeps you along like the most of lethal rip tides. They can hardly be delusions of grandeur when they’re so accomplished and self assured.” And Spinner.com/AOL concluded about RUBIN: "It looks as though the budding rock star has a long musical career ahead of him."
Accomplished beyond his years, RUBIN has played professionally since the age of nine. Opening Woodstock '99 with his first band, F.o.N., a then eleven-year old RUBIN found his way into the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest person to play the historic festival. He went on to drum for Denver Harbor (Universal), completing his high school degree while touring the country in a van. Next for the teenager was a stint with Lostprophets, playing on LIBERATION TRANSMISSION, the band’s third album, which debuted at #1 on the U.K. album charts. In those three years alone, RUBIN had played for sold-out crowds and festivals all over the world—including Download, Reading/Leeds, Rock am Ring/Park, Fuji Rock, Summer Sonic, V Festival and many others. In late 2008, Trent Reznor invited RUBIN to join Nine Inch Nails after being “blown away” by his performance at the Reading/Leeds Festival in 2007. RUBIN went on to blow the rest of the band away in November when he was asked to rehearse with Nine Inch Nails for their “Lights In The Sky” tour, following Josh Freese’s departure.
THE NEW REGIME was born in between writing and recording the latest Lostprophets album and performing a string of sporadic tour dates. "All of the material was written and recorded on Lostprophets downtime,” RUBIN explains, “and to be honest, I had never really sung before." After acquainting himself with the role of singer, he wrote and recorded seven songs in his San Diego, CA garage. "I started playing it for people—not telling them who it was—and started getting some really positive feedback. So I decided to continue with it." The aura of mysterious genesis is a concept RUBIN planned quite thoroughly. “I wanted people to listen to it and make up their minds based on the music—not who it was by, or what band I'm in,” he says.
An equally enigmatic viral video followed (which can be seen on the band’s YouTube channel), fusing THE NEW REGIME’s music with imagery of protest, uprising, urgency and change. Quickly spreading throughout various music websites and blogs, THE NEW REGIME received major radio and press attention within a week of the video's release. With several more songs in hand, COUP became a reality. Drawing his influence from the greats—The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Queen, to name a few— RUBIN set out to create an eclectic, yet thematically dark album. COUP feels much like a procession, each song marching forward, inviting all who listen to join in its crusade.
Ever evolving, RUBIN's vision is not obscure: "All the songs on the album are there for a reason. I never want to be categorized or pigeonholed into a sound, where if I did something different, a fan base would feel abandoned." It is this ideology that assures the music is limited only by the imaginative inventiveness of its creator, and that the world will be better off under the watchful eye of THE NEW REGIME.
