Field Days Gives Album Away

In 2010, Patrick Damphier (aka Field Days) found time to isolate himself in his parents' Nashville, TN basement, record his critically acclaimed debut album Projector on a 4-track reel to reel machine he acquired from an ex-Loretta Lynn staff writer, make the packaging for both CD and vinyl 100% by hand, and tour as the bassist for The Mynabirds.

Projector in its entirety is now available in digital form for the price of an email address until February 29th.

Click HERE to download and/or embed.

Damphier is currently working on his second release with producer Brian Deck (Iron & Wine, Modest Mouse, Red Red Meat). He'll be back on tour in March as a member of The Mynabirds featuring Richard Swift opening for Bright Eyes.

Architecture in Helsinki Debut New Track, "Contact High"

Click HERE to Stream “Contact High” by Architecture

in Helsinki and Click HERE to Download it

from Pitchfork!

Band’s First Single in Four Years to be Released

on Forthcoming Album, Moment Bends
Four years since the release of their last album, Architecture in Helsinki have just given the tantalizing initial taste of their new full-length with first single “Contact High.” The exuberant dance-pop track projects the band’s unique charm and is built around an irresistible chorus. Click HERE to stream the track at the band’s website or head over toPitchfork to grab the download. The band’s upcoming hook-laden, magnetic, and lush new album, Moment Bends will be released on May 3rd through V2/Cooperative Music USA/Downtown Records. It sounds like the record they’ve waited their whole lives to make, retaining the fizzing immediacy of its three predecessors and re-molding with a more sophisticated touch.
In large parts, Moment Bends is in dialogue with the dance floor, without being a slave to any particular rhythm. So, imagine a sound equal parts Italia ‘82, California ‘79, and Melbourne 2011, glued together with a dynamic bounce and a compelling romanticism.
Recorded over a 2 year period in the band's studio space, Buckingham Palace, Songwriter Cameron Bird says: “Moment Bends was all about being at one with our ideas, obsessed with popular music and falling in love with our hometown. We wanted to build a record to get lost in. A record that always feels exactly what you are feeling”. Architecture In Helsinki will be touring Europe, Australia, and North America – with US dates scheduled for June.

The Head and the Heart Steal New York's Heart!!!

How we all didn't end up on-stage dancing and shaking tambourines with The Head and the Heart has zero to do with the band and audience, and everything to do with the height of the stage at Terminal 5. While their very first New York City show might have been better suited to Bell House or Mercury Lounge, they filled their opening slot for Dr. Dog at the cavernous T5 with bounce and grin-inducing harmonies.

To fill in the obligatory "for fans of" statement, easy comparisons are Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons, Guster, and Fleetwood Mac. The Head and the Heart are happily riding the recent comeback of vocal-driven pop/Americana, and they sound and look like they are enjoying it. This six-piece band, visually centered around the lovable Charity Rose Thielen (vocals, violin, percussion) and lead by frontmen Josiah Johnson and Jon Russell (vocals, guitars, percussion) brought a refreshing mix of poignant, story-telling lyrics and driven melodies to the giant room. The movement and joy on-stage was nonstop, sincere and infectious. Many of their songs center around the idea of movement: like "Ghosts," a nostalgic ride along the chorus "All my friends are talkin' about leavin', about leavin', but all my friends are sittin' in their graves" and "Cats and Dogs," their beautiful opener that declares "my roots are grown but I don’t know where they are." Strung throughout the set were songs about moving forward, being on your way, leaving, going and being gone. From what I saw and heard Friday night, I'd say the are indeed moving, on their way and going - go see The Head and the Heart live. I dare you not to give in to their sunny day preachings and grin while you dance. -tm

O’DEATH TO RELEASE NEW RECORD

O’DEATH TO RELEASE NEW RECORD, OUTSIDE, VIA ERNEST JENNING RECORD CO. ON APRIL 19TH, ANNOUNCE SPRING U.S. TOUR, AND GIVE AWAY NEW SONG!

LISTEN TO “BUGS,” THE FIRST TRACK OFF THE HAUNTING NEW RECORD

"This raw and ragged New York band draws from the starkness and spiritual purity of Appalachian folk, the menace of punk and the rowdy theatricality of Tom Waits, jumbling sacred and profane." - Ben Sisario, The New York Times

In late July of 2010, New York quintet O'Death – Singer/guitarist Greg Jamie, Gabe Darling on banjo and ukulele, drummer David Rogers-Berry, bassist Jesse Newman, and violinist Robert Pycior - returned to the stage after a year-long hiatus to play a critically-acclaimed set at the Newport Folk Festival. In many ways it was the perfect start to a new era in the band's existence, and a logical precursor to their upcoming third LP. O’Death return to Ernest Jenning Record Co. for Outside, set for release April 19th.

After endless touring on the rollicking one-two punch of their debut Head Home (Ernest Jenning Record Co.) and sophomore barnburner Broken Hymns, Limbs and Skin (Kemado), the band was sidelined in the midst of their 2009 tour when Rogers-Berry was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Ten months of chemotherapy and a shoulder replacement later, the group returned to the studio with a new outlook on life, and began work on their most fully conceived project to date – an affirmation of sorts. With the help of producer/engineer Billy Pavone (The Fall, Asobi Seksu, White Rabbits), the result is a record that is both the most subtle and massive accomplishment of the band's career. Outside is a darkly triumphant and free-flowing album that represents exactly where the songwriters have found themselves in this moment. As Pycior notes, "I love the dynamic disparity in the album: the fragile parts of ‘Bugs,’ ‘Ourselves,’ and ‘Don't Come Back...,’ the huge endings in ‘Alamar,’ ‘Look at the Sun,’ and ‘Pushing Out.’

Listen to/Download “Bugs,” the first track off Outside, here.

O’Death will be touring extensively leading up to the record’s release on April 19th. Come see what Time Out Chicago calls “a Neil Young–fronted version of Murder By Death doused with banjos and speed.”
