Dredg land in New York City for two shows!
Thursday, July 30 at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza and Friday, July 31 at the Bowery Ballroom.
Aggressive and beautiful, visceral and thoughtful, THE PARIAH (produced by Matt Radosevich), marks the Bay Area band’s fourth full-length studio album. On this release, the band combines to create equal parts punk aggression and metallic complexity--a sound that brings together the artistic instrumentation, haunting vocals and emotional intensity that is Dredg. Though driven by rhythms and guitars, THE PARIAH is far from a typical rock album. Inspired in part by Salman Rushdie’s essay “Imagine There's No Heaven: A Letter to the 6 Billionth Citizen,” Dredg capture the madness of the modern world, particularly its battles over religion and science, within a musical missive to the future. Fittingly, THE PARIAH is packaged and constructed like a letter, its songs and instrumental interludes connected by eerie, evocative Wurlitzer piano-and-voice segments. Diverse and textured, these intentional imperfections allow some of Dredg’s mellowest recorded moments to mingle with some of their harshest. It's the album Dredg has been working toward their entire career.

Alberta Cross’ forthcoming release Broken Side of Time
“Each tune comes on like a fragile gesture—rich with euphoric choruses,
layered guitars and raw harmonies.”—NME
“Channeling Neil Young and My Morning Jacket, the sound of deliverance.”—Esquire
Alberta Cross are poised for the release of their much-anticipated full-length debut, Broken Side of Time, set for release September 22 on ATO Records. The album arrives on the heels of their acclaimed EP The Thief & the Heartbreaker, which earned the band U.K. touring slots with Oasis, The Shins and Bat For Lashes, and widespread critical praise, including PopMatters, which declared, “The seven-song EP is one of the best you’ll be lucky enough to pick up, resembling a full album’s quality but leaving one wanting a lot more.” Alberta Cross is coming off noteworthy performances at Bonnaroo, Coachella and SXSW and is slated to perform at Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and more. Details on upcoming tour dates will be announced soon.
Founded by guitarist/vocalist Petter Ericson Stakee and bassist Terry Wolfers, Alberta Cross took shape when the two began jamming together in London’s east end. Stakee, from London by way of Sweden, and Wolfers, a Brit himself, moved to New York City in 2008 in pursuit of renewed creative energy and new challenges. Broken Side of Time is born of the struggles and setbacks the band faced along the way. The album serves as Alberta Cross’ official introduction to the U.S. As Stakee explains, “It’s kind of a desperation album, a darker album; it’s definitely angrier. We’ve been in a crazy place during the whole album and you can hear that.”
Led by Stakee and Wolfers, Alberta Cross is rounded out by guitarist Sam Kearney, drummer Austin Beede and keyboardist Alec Higgins. Broken Side of Time was recorded in Austin, TX and produced by Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Dead Confederate, Heartless Bastards). John O’Mahony (Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Kasabian) mixed the album at Electric Lady in New York City.

THE DEAR HUNTER: 'Act III: Life And Death' Out
THE DEAR HUNTER’S
‘ACT III: LIFE AND DEATH’
OUT ON TRIPLE CROWN RECORDS;
AOL LISTENING PARTY ONLINE NOW;
U.S. TOUR WITH MEWITHOUTYOU CONTINUES
June 29, 2009 -- ACT III: LIFE AND DEATH, the highly anticipated second album from THE DEAR HUNTER--Casey Crescenzo (singer/pianist/guitarist/lyricist/multi-instrumentalist), Andy Wildrick (guitar), Erick Serna (guitar), Nick Crescenzo (drums), Nate Patterson (bass)—was released today on Triple Crown Records. The epic third chapter of the band’s six-chapter concept album project chronicles the latest endeavors of “the boy,” now a man, looking (and finding) love, loss and reinvention.
Produced by Casey Crescenzo, and with engineering duties behind the boards shared with Andy Wildrick, the opus was conceived, hashed out, and recorded entirely in the band's studio in Providence, Rhode Island. It was mixed by Mike Watts and mastered by Andy VanDette. The band pulled out every stop when it came to instrumentation, bringing in musicians to contribute live strings, woodwinds, horns, and even harps.
Fans who want to hear the album in its entirety can visit AOL’s website, which is offering a full album listening party at http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/#/13.
In touring and video news, THE DEAR HUNTER is criss-crossing the U.S. along with Mewithoutyou through July 11 in Boston. A new trek is on deck for August and will be announced in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, an animated video for “What It Means To be Alone” will hit TV and Internet airwaves in the coming months. The clip is currently being produced and directed by singer Casey Crescenzo.
ACT III is the follow-up to 2007’s ACT II: THE MEANING OF, & ALL THINGS REGARDING MS. LEADING, which was described by Alternative Press as an album that “...goes from haunting and otherworldly (‘The Oracles On The Delphi Express’) to utterly fantastic—‘The Bitter Suite 1 And 2: Meeting Ms. Leading’ is a chamber indie-pop masterpiece, complete with an instantly memorable piano line and a chorus as big as the song title.”
Rave reviews for ACT III are already pouring in:
“Successful concept albums work well as a cohesive whole but also have great songs that stand on their own, and that holds true on ACT III: LIFE AND DEATH. It's best to listen to this CD from start to finish in one sitting in order to get the concept album experience, but even if one isn't big on concept albums, tracks like ‘Life and Death,’ ‘The Poison Woman,’ and ‘Go Get Your Gun’ have no problem standing on their own. Crescenzo brings a wide variety of influences to this disc, ranging from Radiohead and Coldplay to Queen, the Beach Boys, and the Beatles; the result is an engaging alternative pop/rock effort that has a strong awareness of classic rock but without sounding overtly nostalgic. Crescenzo’s willingness to turn to different rock eras for creative inspiration yields excellent results on ACT III: LIFE AND DEATH.”
--Alex Henderson, All Music Guide,
June 22, 2009
“The third chapter in a six chapter story finds Casey Crescenzo and crew being even more elaborate than ever before, but also with more heart and soul than either of the previous releases. The album opens with one of the most intriguing beginnings of any album in 2009 and continues to lure the listener in with each and every track. The flow is phenomenal and Crescenzo has never written nor sounded better in his life. His voice bounces from light and angelic to gruff without once wavering from being completely compelling. The band has really expanded the scope of their sound to create soundtracks for every possible scene in life from fiestas (‘In Clauda Venenum’) to a ballroom blitz (‘Go Get Your Gun’) to even a dreary spring day (‘Father’).”

“…ACT III is a powerful continuation of the beautiful and depressing story of ‘the dear hunter.’ It is kind of sad that the story is already half over. 4 out of 5 stars”

June 17, 2009
And in a live review of the band’s recent show at the Glass House in Pomona, CA, Beatcrave.com raved: “With each song, the band showed incredible control over the songs never rushing through a particular tune but, instead, letting the audience saturate in every aspect of the music, lyrics, tone and rhythm comprising a particular track…The Dear Hunter have a sound that is so distinct and superbly unique that they shone with a radiance during their entire time on stage. If you’ve yet to be afforded the fortune of seeing The Dear Hunter play live, go out of your way to find a venue housing them, buy a ticket and prepare yourself for a show like few others you’ve ever seen before.”

BLK JKS FULL - LENGTH DEBUT AFTER ROBOTS TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 8
BLK JKS FULL-LENGTH DEBUT AFTER ROBOTS TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 8 FREE MP3 AVAILABLE NOW
http://www.scjag.com/mp3/sc/molalatladi.mp3
“Four tracks isn’t enough. We need a full CD from these guys—and soon.”—New York Daily News
“…MYSTERY emerges as a testament to a global form of cultural exchange.”—The New Yorker
BLK JKS’ highly anticipated full-length debut After Robots will be released September 8 on Secretly Canadian. Following the March release of their MYSTERY EP and return appearance at South by Southwest, South Africa’s BLK JKS are receiving critical praise from The New York Times, SPIN, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, LA Weekly, Time Out New York, New York Daily News and Under the Radar, among others.
Amidst all this critical praise the essence of BLK JKS’ music—a collision of township blues, fringe jazz and renegade dub, heard via the lens of prog—shines through. Music from Africa has never sounded like this, as BLK JKS bring the concept of afro-futurism into a new century.
After Robots was recorded January in Bloomington, IN as BLK JKS traded a South African summer for winter in America and burrowed in for marathon recording sessions of one live take after the next. Brandon Curtis of Secret Machines returned to join the band at the controls and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble appears on several tracks with the swagger of aggressive horn stabs, but throughout After Robots is an original BLK JKS affair—a distinctly South African vision of rock’s global travel and the possibility of what it can sound like from here on out.
BLK JKS first came to the U.S. in the spring of 2008 after a chance meeting with über-producer Diplo while he was on tour in South Africa. The band’s appearance on the cover of the Fader, as well as highly acclaimed sets at South by Southwest, sparked recording sessions at New York’s famed Electric Lady studios that resulted in the MYSTERY EP. They have gone on to share stages in North America and Europe with a celebrated and disparate array of artists including Femi Kuti, Santigold, Dirty Projectors, Michael Franti and Cody Chesnutt; they have played Sasquatch and Soweto Arts Festival; and drummer Tshepang Ramoba has been celebrated by Billboard as “the best musician” at SXSW.
BLK JKS consists of childhood friends Lindani Buthelezi and Mpumi Mcata who grew up on the same block in Johannesburg’s East Rand where they taught themselves guitar. After the band’s current lineup took shape with the addition of bassist Molefi Makananise and drummer Tshepang Ramoba, both of Soweto, they embarked on a schedule of heavy touring throughout South Africa that earned them a loyal national following.
The first glimpse of the full length, “Mololatladi,” which literally means rainbow in Zulu, is available now as a free mp3.
