SAM AMIDON’S I SEE THE SIGN TO BE RELEASED MARCH 1

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Sam Amidon’s fourth solo album I See The Sign will be released March 1 by Bedroom Community. Amidon transforms age-old secular ballads, gospel, folk songs and hymns through his direction, vision, vocals, banjo, guitar and contributions from Shahzad Ismaily, Nico Muhly, Beth Orton and Valgeir Sigurðsson.

I See The Sign sets the stage for Amidon’s second Bedroom Community release to showcase deft attention to songcraft and collaboration. Where All Is Well—his last recording, which CMJ called “a goose-bump-manufacturing sonic pièce de résistance”—foregrounded voice and strings to share tales of human endurance, I See The Sign is a carefully constructed battle and balance of musical sensibilities surveying the psychological extremes of existence.

From three children’s singing games popularized by Georgia Sea Islands songstress Bessie Jones (which feature Orton’s vocals) to an intimate rendition of R. Kelly’s “Relief,” Amidon creates visionary epics from established modes, traversing the emotional gamut with the help of collaborators. Multi-instrumentalist, composer and longtime Amidon collaborator Ismaily has worked with a range of musicians including Laurie Anderson, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Jolie Holland, Rage Against the Machine, Lou Reed and Tom Waits. Ismaily’s expansive contributions are offset by Nico Muhly’s chamber-orchestral arrangements for string, brass, and woodwinds that continue the groundbreaking work he began on All Is Well. In an environment of struggle, euphony, and polyphony, Valgeir Sigurðsson’s role as producer grounds this sonic psychogeography.

Prior to I See The Sign, Amidon released Solo Fiddle (2001), But This Chicken Proved Falsehearted (Plug Research, 2007), All Is Well (Bedroom Community, 2008), as well five albums as a teenager with his band Popcorn Behavior. He draws comics and makes videos as well; Amidon’s work has shown at Luhturm in Leipzig, Audio Visual Art in New York City and in a multimedia performance at New York’s Museum of Art and Design.

About Bedroom Community
Bedroom Community is an Icelandic record label/collective that was formed in 2006 by Valgeir Sigurðsson with Ben Frost and Nico Muhly. These like-minded yet diverse individuals from different corners of the globe all creatively orbit around an inconspicuous building on the outskirts of Reykjavík, Iceland—Greenhouse Studios, where they create most of their music.

VersanT Release date: Release date: February 17, 2010

Could I be wrong/ Or is this the old song/ Ushering the new dawn? – “Quick Escapes”

Sweden, the unofficial headquarters of sparkling electro-pop, seems an inevitable launching pad for Versant. Led by Carah Faye, former frontwoman of the Grammy-nominated Shiny Toy Guns, and producer Daniel Johansson, Versant synthesizes the melodicism of a true pop siren with up-to-the-minute textures that can ignite both dance floors and rock clubs.
“Versant is a summation of dreams,” says Carah Faye. “It’s music we believe ‘belongs’ but is rarely understood, much less brought to reality.” Lyrically, Faye draws from real-life experiences and reveals their difficult, but ultimately transcendent, lessons: “I will wait for the truth to find me/ But I will never leave it to you” (“Out of Touch”). Faye and Johansson’s goal is that they, and the band, are “helping people to heal or be inspired to hope.”
Johansson and Faye met in the most organic of ways—on the road. Johansson worked as soundman for Shiny Toy Guns as well as for fellow Swedes The Sounds, who tapped him to produce the title track of their 2009 release, Crossing the Rubicon. Unsurprisingly, they draw artistic inspiration from a diverse playlist. “Mew, Kent, Coldplay, The Cardigans and Michael Jackson have been in rotation in 2009—anybody with an individual sound who likes espresso and walks on the beach,” Carah laughs.

Now splitting their time between Sweden, where they will be touring through November, and America, which will feature a highly anticipated showcase at South by Southwest 2010, Versant will drop their self-titled debut on February 17, 2010. Reaction to demos posted on their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/versantmusic) has been unanimous: Although only debuting, Versant exceeds high expectations, and introduces loyal fans to a bristling new musical collaboration.
Versant is:

Carah Faye: Vocals
Daniel Johansson: Guitar/Keys
Johan Grettve: Guitar/Keys
Richard Ankers: Drums
Nicholas Oja: Bass

* METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH AND ANTHRAX TO PERFORM TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY *

* THE BIG FOUR CONFIRMED FOR SONISPHERE POLAND AND CZECH REPUBLIC *

* MORE BIG FOUR APPEARANCES AT SONISPHERE SHOWS PLANNED *

The world wide web has been abound with speculation on a possible “BIG FOUR” tour for several months. Now, SONISPHERE can exclusively reveal that METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAXwill play together for the first time in history, in a move that will have metalheads across the globe frenzied with excitement.

Says LARS ULRICH/METALLICA of this historic announcement:
"Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal's big 4 would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time...what a mindfuck! Bring it on!"

“It's about fucking time this happened,” said SLAYER’s KERRY KING. “and about time the fans finally get what they want. This is fucking awesome.”

ANTHRAX guitarist SCOTT IAN agrees, commenting on the enormity of the announcement.

“People have been talking about these four bands playing together since 1984. That's twenty-six years of expectation!!! And the thing is, I believe not only will we live up to the expectations, we will shatter them!! No other four bands as influential as the four of us have ever done this. Imagine if The Beatles, Stones, The Who and Zeppelin had done shows? Or Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Motorhead? Well, I may be getting into some rarified air here but as a fan, that's how big I feel this is.”

These four legendary acts broke out of the underground thrash movement to dominate the metal world in the 1980s, selling millions of records and packing arenas across the globe. The metal giants have never before all shared the same stage, despite huge demand. But on 16th June 2010, METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX will take to the SONISPHERE stage at Bemowo Airport, Poland, to make the dreams of headbangers the world over become a reality. A second Big Four appearance is planned for SONISPHERE CZECH REPUBLIC three days later, with more SONISPHERE shows featuring the awesome combo to be announced in the coming days and weeks.

“This is a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for Heavy Metal “Fans” to see the four greatest Heavy Metal “Bands” in American History back together on one stage” concludes MEGADETH mainman DAVE MUSTAINE. “If there are any heads left at the end of this Festival that haven’t banged, they don’t belong there.”

2010 Hip Hop Karaoke Championship Comes to Irving Plaza on January 29th

“So close to a real hip-hop show as to raise the question of what exactly the difference between karaoke hip-hop and non-karaoke hip-hop might be.” -New York Times

Following on the success of the sold-out 1st Annual Hip Hop Karaoke Championship at Highline Ballroom, Hip Hop Karaoke, New York’s most popular hip-hop event, presents the 2010 Hip Hop Karaoke Championship at New York’s Irving Plaza on January 29th. The event will feature 12 of Hip Hop Karaoke’s best battling it out for cash prizes in front of celebrity judges.

Throw away any preconceived notions of the stereotypical karaoke night. Hip Hop Karaoke is not “Ice Ice Baby” over a fake beat in the back of a bar. There are no bouncing balls or cheesy screens. Hip Hop Karaoke takes the traditional concept of karaoke and transforms it into the complete emcee experience. This is the opportunity to grab a mic, get up on stage, and perform to a diverse, enthusiastic crowd. Hip Hop Karaoke uses only the original instrumentals and the hosts ensure that every participant, from the seasoned hip-hop veteran to the casual fan, stays on track.

Over the past month, the organizers held two Regional Championships in Brooklyn and Manhattan, with the highest-scoring competitors advancing to the Championship. At the Championship, performers will pick from Hip Hop Karaoke’s eclectic song list of over 300 classic and current hip-hop songs. After three rounds, one person will emerge as Hip Hop Karaoke Champion and winner of a $1,000 cash prize. Last year, Prince Paul, Dres from BlackSheep and Video Music Box's Ralph McDaniels brought their vast hip-hop knowledge to the judges' table and this year, expect similar legends to bless the stage in January. Hip Hop Karaoke will be announcing this year's judges soon.

Started in December 2004, Hip Hop Karaoke has given thousands of people the opportunity to witness, and participate in, this unique celebration of hip-hop. Hip Hop Karaoke has been visited by such luminaries as Jeru the Damaja, Pete Rock, Rhymefest and Big Daddy Kane (among many others) and has spawned affiliates all over the globe. Everyone from XXL to Spin to Village Voice to New York magazine has sung HHK’s praises and one look makes it easy to see why it’s New York’s most popular hip-hop event.

“Hip Hop Karaoke is an idea so good you’re shocked it hasn’t been thought of earlier.”
-New York Magazine

“Best of New York ” -New York Magazine

“Rap might have come late to the karaoke party, but it’s making up for lost time.” -Guardian

“While hip-hop karaoke nights have been held across the U.S…the most successful and consistent event is New York City ’s Hip-Hop Karaoke. HHK’s foundation is an eclectic song list that runs the gamut from classic favorites…to more obscure gems.” -XXL

“Trendsetting” -Allhiphop.com

“Hip-Hop Karaoke…changed the game, to the delight of our city’s many hip-hop junkies.” -Flavorpill

"Highly recommended" -Gawker

“[The Championship] was a swooning night of revived hip-hop classics.” -Spin

“America’s Wildest Parties” -Spin

“Wildly popular” -URB

“Exhilarating….Rewarding…Another stint on a stage is definitely coming.” -Vibe.com First Person Review

“Knowing all the words to “Ice Ice Baby” isn’t considered ironic or humorous here. If you can spit every word to Big L’s “Put It On” without missing a beat, you’ll fit right in.” -Newsday

“One of the Big Apple’s most innovative and talked-about nights.” -TNT

Jason Lytle Catches the Christmas Spirit on Free EP

Ex-Granddaddy frontman Jason Lytle is getting into the holiday spirit, releasing a Christmas EP though hisbandcamp website for the very un-grinchy price of...free!

As Lytle explaineds in a note on his website:

"It is approximately Christmas 2009, and I am letting whoever you are know that I have a gift for you, if you want it.

I set up some microphones in my living room and recorded about 35 minutes of improvisational piano music, and...It just so happens that playing my piano at home is one of my favorite things to do (in terms of music) so it was nice to be able to capture some of these moments of me just playing aimlessly and relaxed.

So...in appreciation to those of you who bought my album this year, or came to the shows, or donated money to help my sister, or even to those of you who did none of those things....here is a gift from me.

I hope you all had a good year and that next year will be even better!

Jason"

Tracklisting

1. Last Conversation In Waltz Time
2. Wild Animals Slowly Approaching the Lovely Country Funeral
3. Out Cold On Indian Ambien
4. Meeshell
5. Good Chord Song for LP Two
6. Bird Feeder Soap Opera Plot
7. SepDecember Song

Update from Dr Dog...

Hey Everybody!
It's very possible that we may have just finished our new album. It
might even be likely. We'll see. You'll see. While all of us are
seeing... we'll head out on the road next week for our final lap of
2009. A short jaunt to New Haven, CT, then down to Brooklyn and off to
Chicago just for the night. After that we're taking a break. This one
won't last too long, however so there a few things to tell you about.

Chicago VIP Tickets
First off, the good people at the Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival
(December 12th) have given us a pair of VIP tickets to give to 2 Dr
Dog fans in Chicago. With these tickets, besides getting in for FREE
you'll get access to the balcony, where you'll have seats to rest your
bones and stare downwards. If that's not high enough for you, VIPs
will also have access to the Congress Skyboxes located along the giant
dome way above the theater. How can you win these 2 tickets? Be the
first person to send a picture of themselves at work wearing a
self-made Dr Dog. It can't be a shirt we made, we've seen all of them.
If you're not employed that's alright, all you have to do is go to
someone else's work and take the picture there. Send the photo to:

The first one to get a picture in there will win the tickets...we'll
let you know.

New Haven - Toad's Place:
We haven't played in Connecticut in a long time and we wanted to be
sure we did before the end of the year. We'll be at Toad's Place on
December 10th. People have been writing for the last few weeks
expressing various levels of rage about not being able to get tickets
to the Brooklyn Bowl but New Haven isn't that far and we'll be there
too along with our good friends Drug Rug. You can buy tickets to that
one here:

The Future: 2010
More and more we're getting emails from people who ask us why we don't
play in their towns. As a group of rational people, we all feel like
we play a lot but it's true, we never get to some places that we'd
really like to play. We can't do all of them, but we'll start with the
dates below. All these shows go onsale this Friday Dec 4th. We've made
the shows ALL AGES wherever possible and a lot of these shows have
been pretty carefully considered as towns that we will not be able to
play this spring or summer. We hope some of you can make it and we
really appreciate all the emails... please keep em coming to

All shows listed below will go ONSALE TOMORROW - FRIDAY DECEMBER 4.

Ticket Links will be available at our website:

Hope everyone is good! See you soon!
